Game Description 2012
Rebound Rumble is played by two opposing alliances on a flat field. Each alliance is made up of three robots. The robots play the game by scoring as many baskets as possible into their 4 hoops during a 2 minute and 15 second match. The higher the hoop the basketball is scored into, the more points the alliance receives.
The match starts with a 15-second Hybrid Period where robots operate without driver control. During this Hybrid Period, one robot on each alliance may be controlled using a Microsoft Kinect ®. Baskets scored during this period are worth extra points. For the rest of the match, drivers control robots and try to maximize their alliance score by scoring as many baskets as possible.
The match ends with the robots trying to balance on bridges on the middle of the field. In Qualification Matches, a robot from each alliance will also try to balance on the white CoopertitionTM bridge to score additional seeding points for each alliance. Scoring for the match is summarized in the table below.

Each match starts with a hybrid period followed by a teleoperated period, and is 2 minutes and 15 seconds long.
- The hybrid period is the first 15 seconds of the match. Drivers do not control the robot and robots may react only to Kinect inputs and commands programmed into the onboard control system.
- The teleoperated period is the 2-minute period of game play after the hybrid period. During this period, drivers may control the robot for the remainder of the match.
